Community Events Committee

Stephanie King, Psy.D.

The Community Events Committee (a.k.a. “the party committee”) consists of co-chairs Stephanie King and Molly Merson and committee members Nicole Hsiang and Bhavna Bharvani. Our committee spends monthly Sunday brunches coming up with creative ideas for events and spaces that can offer ongoing dialogue among people interested in psychoanalytic thinking. Our continued goal is to create unique events that will draw people out into the community and into places where we can interact, connect, and share our ideas.

Each year the CEC is responsible for the planning and execution of the members-only holiday party at Maureen Murphy's gorgeous home. Additionally, this year the CEC held a very successful networking event at Mad Oak bar in Oakland. The event drew a large crowd of diverse clinicians. Our other well-attended event this year, entitled Death, Sex, and Money, was a panel discussion held at the Chapel of the Chimes.

As the year wraps up, we will, of course, be looking forward to the Holiday party as well as focusing our creative energy as a committee on coming up with more energizing, intriguing, and welcoming events.

Community Mental Health Committee

David Cushman, Psy.D.

The Community Mental Health Committee — David Cushman (chair), Clara Brandt, Daniel Gunther, Stefania Pifer — has been working this past year on creating connections between NCSPP and Bay Area CMH clinics.

We continue to try to find unique ways of helping sustain CMH clinicians. Currently we are moving forward on a “helpline” to provide support and psychodynamic organizational consultation for clinicians navigating complicated systems in their work.

For the second consecutive year we put on free reading groups for CMH clinicians in support of the NCSPP annual lecture. This year we hosted reading groups in San Francisco and Oakland that examined Jessica Benjamin's
