Committee Reports

Katherine Eng, Ph.D., Chair

The Community Mental Health Committee is committed to creating events that promote networking and community building amongst those working in non-profit, community-based, or government-funded agencies. Within budget and time constraints, we hope our events provide space for psychoanalytic thinking with historically marginalized populations while also creating time for networking and support.

This past year, the committee has continued with annual reading groups and hikes. In October 2022, participants met to discuss the topic of borders and boundaries in psychoanalytic community settings. This past spring, the CMH hosted its inaugural Arts Night at Sin Titulo Gallery in San Francisco, an event that all agreed should continue annually. In April, hikers gathered at Lafayette Reservoir for a time of outdoor enjoyment and meeting new people after the initial event was canceled in November due to weather conditions.

We look forward to seeing more clinicians at next year's events. In addition to reading groups, hikes, and art functions, the Community Mental Health Committee is planning to offer training on topics relevant to those working in these settings. None of these functions would have been possible without the involvement of Geetali Chitre, Hoa My Ngyuen, and Halleli Toder. This year we have been joined by Dana Pomerantz. Together, their synergy has brought new ideas, energy, deeper thinking, and community spirit.
