Group leadership is not only a matter of the relationship between political leaders and followers but also of the relationship between discursive leaders whose leadership is expressed and performed through the medium of written texts and their audience. The group discourse that is created by discursive leaders can be read psychoanalytically, and psychodynamic tasks of leadership can be discerned and analyzed. In the essay that follows, I use object relations group psychoanalytic theory to read the literature of United States black feminist thought. I argue that in many respects this black feminist thought can be read as a progressive discourse of reparative group leaders.
