This paper discusses the self-in-relation theory with respect to female psychological development from psychoanalytic perspectives. Our conceptualization is influenced by early Freudian theory, object relations theories of Winnicott, Klein, and Mahler, as well as the viewpoints of feminist psychoanalysts Chodorow, Benjamin, and Flax. Our objective is to enhance the understanding of the respective strengths and weaknesses of the self-in-relation theory as an account of feminine psychology.
