This paper proposes an analogy between the function of myths and psychoanalytic constructions. The concept of construction in freudian theory is explained. A fragment of a clinical case of the author, in which a construction was elaborated an had a favorable effect in the analysis of the patient is exposed, and used as an example to develop the analogy with the value of myths. The story of the primeval father, considered as a psychoanalytic myth created by Freud, offers us an instrument to interpret the main features of the clinical case presented.
