At meetings of the Council of Editors of Psychoanalytic Journals, the question of confidentiality has been brought up. The same topic was discussed in a workshop at the XII Forum of Psychoanalysis in Oslo, this spring. On the basis of these discussions we published a policy declaration in IFP vol. 12:3 regarding confidentiality in publication of case material in International Forum of Psychoanalysis. We sent a copy to Joseph Reppen, chairman of the Council of Editors of Psychoanalytic Journals. He forwarded the document to Paul Williams and Glen Gabbard, editors of International Journal of Psychoanalysis, who promptly gave us their response. You will find the correspondence below.
We welcome further contributions to this discussion.

Dear Joe,
For your information, I send the Policy declaration that we are publishing in our next issue of International Forum of Psychoanalysis including the form we hereafter send to all authors regarding this matter. If you have any comments, we are glad to receive them. In the long run I think it would be good if we could arrive at a common declaration and practice. I do not remember if there is a committee working on this.
Best greetings Jan
Dear Jan,
Your policy statement looks absolutely fine to me. I am going to forward it to Paul Williams and Glen Gabbard for any suggestions. Paul, as you know, has spoken eloquently at the last two meetings of the Council. By the way, the next meeting of CEPJ will be at the Waldorf Astoria during the meetings of the American Psychoanalytic, January 25, 2003, Noon to 2 PM.
Best Joe
