Holocaust survivor. His own Holocaust experience occurred from when he was 11 to 13 years of age. Leaving Bruxelles in advance of the invading German army, he and his mother sought asylum in France. Five months after their arrival in France, they were incarcerated in Rivesaltes; at his mother's urging he escaped from Rivesaltes at age 12; was later listed by his mother with the OSE (who volunteered to stay in Rivesaltes) to come to America and did so in June 1942; he was 13 years old. His mother, he later learned, died in Auschwitz 3 months after his arrival in America. He does not know the fate of the rest of his family, his father and 4-year-older brother included. On return to Bruxelles in 1953, he found that only three cousins from his large family were still alive. He is a Professor of Psychiatry at the Jefferson Medical College as well as a Training and Supervising Analyst at the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia and he is a psychiatrist-psychoanalyst for adults and children in clinical practice in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania.
