Almost all conflicts are now fought by armed groups within national boundaries and 90 percent of the casualties are civilians, mainly women, children and adolescents1
In the last decade:
20,000,000 children worldwide have been forced to flee their homes because of conflict
2,000,000 children have died as a direct result of armed conflict.
6,000,000 children have been permanently disabled or seriously injured.
8000 to 10,000 children are killed or maimed by landmines every year.
300,000 children fight in formal or informal armies
It has not been possible to get an accurate count of the number of children separated from family care as a result of armed conflict and its sequelae.2
