The book is a compilation of 24 articles that focus broadly on the following three themes:
The Deep State
Scapegoating of Islam
Miscarriage of Free Speech
In addition to the traditional elected government in Washington, there exists an indefinable government that is not routinely visible. This is called the Deep State, and it has operated covertly for over 50 years beginning with the Cold War era and J. Edgar Hoover. It is a hybrid association of individuals in governmental agencies (National Security Council [NSC], Central Intelligence Agency [CIA], Federal Bureau of Investigation [FBI], Departments of Defense, State, Justice, Homeland Security and Treasury) and parts of Corporate America that effectively governs the United States with an ideology that is neither specifically Democrat nor Republican. Domestically, it believes in the preeminence of finance, outsourcing, privatization, deregulation and the commodifying of labor. Internationally, its members espouse twenty-first century “American Exceptionalism”: the right of the United States to interfere in every region of the world with coercive diplomacy or armed intervention ().
With its wide tentacles, the Deep State successfully reins-in national and international powerful political figures when they pose threats to the desired order. It uses surveillance, propaganda and ruthless means, if necessary, to achieve its ends. Its agents stage crises to gain public support and provide consenting leaders the excuse to effect change. Thus, it forces recalcitrant leaders to toe the line. Examples of such staged crises, or “false flag” events, include 9/11, the Kennedy and King assassinations, the Aldo Moro kidnapping and assassination and, of course, the Hebdo massacre. This last event was a direct reaction of the Deep State to President Hollande's assertive actions in recognizing Palestine and his threat to derail the boycott
