Joseph Reppen, PhD, one of our most distinguished editorial board members, passed away on September 29, 2018. He was eighty-six years old. Joe made many contributions to psychoanalysis. Joe was a graduate of the NPAP Psychoanalytic Institute in NYC. During his professional life he, along with his wife Fran, founded Psychoanalytic Books, one of the most highly esteemed journals during its tenure. He was subsequently the editor of Psychoanalytic Psychology from 1997 to 2007, the Division 39 of the American Psychological Association journal. He was the founder of the Psychoanalytic Editors Organization as well as a valued member of our editorial board (International Journal of Applied Psychoanalytic Studies). He contributed many book reviews to psychoanalytic journals, most notably to The Psychoanalytic Review and The Psychoanalytic Quarterly. He edited a number of texts among them: Psychoanalytic Failures; Why I became a Psychotherapist?; Analysts at Work; and Beyond Freud … among the most noted.
Joe was known and respected for his personal integrity, his sharp mind, wit, and sense of humor, as well as his genuine and untiring commitment to psychoanalysis. On a personal level, his love of his wife Fran and his children, Kyra, Eve, and Alex, was the hallmark of his life.
He was a close personal friend for over forty years … he is sorely missed.
