This paper examines the relationship between cultural memory and colonial trauma through Puerto Rico's historical experience. Building on Merle Heidi Molofsky's thesis that culture is transmitted through memory, this study explores how colonial domination disrupts cultural memory and produces collective psychological trauma. Drawing on psychoanalysis, postcolonial theory, trauma studies, and liberation theology, the paper argues that colonial repression, racial stratification, historical erasure, and economic inequality fracture identity, while cultural expression, especially music and dance, preserves memory and fosters resilience.
