The paper is divided into several sections. Under the Selection of Candidates he places foremost for the future analyst that he must have access to and the will to face his own unconsciousness. To be excluded are psychopathic personalities which include anti-social types, individuals in whom perversions have displaced normal genitality, unintegrated characters who change from one position to another. Those with rigid characters are unsuited for psycho-analysis. Four or five hours may be given to the introduction to analysis. This time is devoted to explaining free association and to correct misconceptions. The problem of the transference must be discussed. The course of the analysis must be therapeutic. The analyst may consider his work at an end when the analysand has it firmly established that he must continue and correct and make more profound his own analyses.
