Psychoanalytic Quarterly, Vol. XVII, 1948, No. 3, p. 322.
The opinion of Freud and other authors is reviewed before presenting clinical data to substantiate the author's own findings. Through dreams the author demonstrates the unconscious olfactory stimulus that exists in the transvestite. During analysis, states of nasal congestion coincided with regression and suppression of fetishistic or transvestite drives. The theme of the article is emphasized by the discussion of fetishism in the transvestite with the importance given to the smell of the object by such patients.
