Nos. 1 and 2 (a double number) are devoted to mental health and contain articles on the Mental Hygiene Congress held in London in 1948, four articles on different aspects of the relationship of psychology to psychiatry, and articles on child psychiatry, physical treatments, psychosomatics, senescence, juvenile delinquency, the mentally abnormal criminal, and the relationship of the law to psychiatry. The articles are by authorities in each field and contain very useful bibliographies. Dr. Michael Fordham has written a review of analytical psychology. Dr. Edward Glover has outlined his view of the position of psycho-analysis in Great Britain. Dr. W. Clifford M. Scott contributes an article on the 'Progress of Psycho-Analysis in Great Britain' since the days before World War I. Unfortunately this article was entitled by the Editor of the Bulletin 'The Kleinian View'. The author, although in his other writing he has shown his indebtedness to the work of Melanie Klein, in this article attempted to give an all-round view of the progress of psycho-analysis in Great Britain.
No. 3 contains a description of the Mental Health Services in Great Britain. Post-graduate education is outlined by Professor A. Lewis and undergraduate education by Professor D. R. MacCalman. There are articles on occupational therapy; psychiatric social work; psychiatric nursing; community care; and the special provisions for the education of mental defectives.
The position regarding mental health under the National Health Service Act is outlined by Dr. W. S. Maclay. A useful directory of organizations concerned with mental health is included.
The bibliography of publications in the field of mental health (which concludes the survey) is unfortunately very poor.
