This is an excellent textbook for clinical psychologists, especially those interested in the practice of psychotherapy. The book shows how far psychologists have penetrated into an area which psychiatrists regard as their own domain. The clinical psychologist is spoken of as 'the clinician', and no attempt is made to delimit the scope of his activities against that of the psychiatrist. The authors, both professors of psychology at Johns Hopkins University, give exact information about the growth of the American clinical psychology group engaged in psychotherapy. Considering the enormous demand for psychological treatment in that country this may be an inevitable development. It will be interesting to watch its course.
