Scoptophilic impulses can be directed towards projections of the patient's own exhibitionism, or towards any type of projected impulse, including grief and guilt. Both scoptophilic and exhibitionist impulses are of great importance in relation to the super-ego and self-observation and therefore play an important role in therapy.
