At the conclusion of this, the 36th volume of the INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF PSYCHO-ANALYSIS, it should be recorded that in the year 1955 the Journal has changed from a quarterly periodical to one published in six parts, one part succeeding the other at a two-months' interval only. This change was initiated by Dr. W. Clifford M. Scott and agreed upon by the other members of the Editorial Committee as well as by the Board of the Institute of Psycho-Analysis in London, who at the same time did not insist on raising the subscription rate. The Editorial Committee is convinced that the increase of administrative work and responsibility will be outweighed by the more frequent and closer contact with the readers and that by such relationship the quality of our publication can be affected favourably.
The shortening of the interval between publications does not necessarily imply an increase in the number of pages, but this can easily be effected, of course, if the necessary conditions can be met.
It was eventually decided to publish the two parts covering the months July to October as one issue as it was thought the more compact form would facilitate reading during the summer vacation. This need not become a custom, but most probably 'double numbers' will prove necessary from time to time in the future. Readers' and subscribers' comments on that or any other topic will be appreciated.
It should further be put on record that Dr. Charles Rycroft (London) has joined the Editorial Committee as one of the Assistant Editors and has thus filled the vacancy created by Dr. W. Clifford M. Scott's change of domicile from London to Montreal; Dr. Scott in return has filled the vacancy due to the death of Dr. Clarence P. Oberndorf (New York) and together with Dr. Robert P. Knight (Stockbridge) will represent the Editorial Committee in the Western Hemisphere.
