Psycho-analytic experience has shown that when a man bleeds he is unconsciously suffering castration. Faergeman maintains that he is not only castrated but also turned into a woman; if he bleeds he probably always does so in one or more of the ways in which a woman bleeds genitally. Manifest fantasies of menstruation, however, are probably associated with severe states of psychopathology.
