Since the International Psycho-Analytical Association now consists of twenty component societies as well as nineteen Affiliate Societies and three officially recognized Study Groups, the unabridged Reports received from them amount to a great deal of material. Furthermore, the amount of detail given, e.g. about training schemes, varied very greatly, and while some Reports were confined to internal matters, others contained much information about public relations.
In editing the Reports we had to consider what information would be of most value to members. Provisionally, it seemed that information of two types would be of particular interest: first, regarding changes of policy in any Society during the past year and, secondly, a brief account of each Society's scientific activities. It was hoped that in this way any member of the International interested in a particular topic could make direct contact with any other members who had read papers on this topic. The Bulletin could thus help in the cross-fertilization of psycho-analytic ideas. Information concerning membership and offices of the Societies is contained in the Roster, and therefore will not be repeated in these Reports.
We hope that the Business Meeting of the next Congress may give some guidance on the proper character and function of the Bulletin.
