We have proposed an axiom system which is consistent and has as its primitives abstractions of the entities involved in the foundations of ego development. The kind of mathematics appropriate for this purpose is the theory of balance in signed graphs. At each successive stage in its development, new points are introduced into the initial ego and new stresses and strains are induced. In accordance with a procedural theorem derived from postulated tendencies toward balance, and toward clustering, these are resolved by the process in which the ego rearranges entities into subjective and objective clusters.
