Counter-transference cures differ from transference cures in that the former apply to a process which takes place wholly within the patient's mind during the process of an unconscious repetition of his childhood phantasy and experiences. In counter-transference cures there occurs in the therapist an unconscious wish of a libidinal nature for the patient's return to health. Simultaneously he obtains some vicarious satisfaction from this. Examples are given and reference is made to the literature on counter-transference.
