Observations made in a student counselling centre are analysed with a view to specific personality traits and behaviour anomalies in students with prolonged stay at the university (from 15 to 34 terms). A somewhat higher rate of psychoses and suicidal attempts was found. Specific problems of this group, e.g. guilt feelings at leaving university and entering professional life, are viewed against a background of a group of non-patients with a history of prolonged studies.
