In this book Mrs Morrison gives a very comprehensive and thorough account of the infiltration of Freudian ideas into literary criticism in England and America in the first quarter of this century. The material is clearly presented and sympathetically discussed. Mrs Morrison has put us all in her debt for having given this extensive account of a phase and aspect of the impact of psychoanalysis on contemporary culture. This is more than a source book or a guide book, because Mrs Morrison brings to the evaluation of the material a careful and balanced critical approach. All the references to the texts referred to are in footnotes. One feels that it would have been useful to have had a complete bibliographic content list of the authors and books referred to, but perhaps this can be remedied in the revised edition.
