In this anthology the editors have roped in excerpts and contributions from some 36 celebrated authors and texts: ranging from Plato's Republic to Wittgenstein. There is a bit from all quarters for the indolent curious. The aim of the editors, however, is to 'provide a text for courses in aesthetics or philosophy of art', but they have spared themselves every editorial chore they could.
In the text of Freud's paper, 'Creative Writers and Day-Dreaming', the cross-references to pages in the text are left as they are in the Standard Edition and not adapted to the pagination in this volume. One Merry Ann Jancovic has helped out the editors with a mammoth bibliography at the end, which the reader can feel free to spend a lifetime coursing through.
