The British Psychoanalytical Society held a special meeting on Wednesday, 17 January 1979, in memory of Ernest Jones who was born on the 1 January 1879. Ernest Jones was the founder of the British Society, the International Journal of Psycho-Analysis and the International Psycho-Analytical Library. We reproduce here tributes given at the meeting by his widow, Mrs Katherine Jones, Dr William Gillespie, Miss Pearl King and Miss Anna Freud in their order of speaking.
Ernest Jones also founded the American Psychoanalytic Association and we are glad to be able to publish a contribution sent to us by Dr Arcangelo D'Amore which shows how active Ernest Jones was in promoting psychoanalysis in North America.
