International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions Tenth International Congress, 25–30 July, 1982. Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland.
CHILDREN IN TURMOIL: TOMORROW'S PARENTS
Clinical and Research Issues in the Development of Identity and Parenthood.
The Congress brings together many questions facing clinicians and researchers today. Poverty, war and forced migration as well as rapid socio-economic and ideological change give rise to discontinuities and stresses, internal and external, which hinder healthy development of the child into future adulthood and parenthood.
The aim is to study biological, psychological and educational influences which may handicap, but can also protect, some children and adolescents in their progress towards a firm identity as an individual and a citizen. Different styles of family function, new views of male and female roles demand a fresh look at treatment methods and the means to meet the needs of young people.
The goal of the Congress is the exchange of ideas, the transformation of research findings into clinical applications and the dissemination of new knowledge to all disciplines concerned with children in turmoil.
The Congress theme is one which includes a wide variety of topics, such as:
Child and Adolescent Development under
Conditions of Turmoil
Family Turmoil and Change
From Infancy to Late Adolescence:
Responses to Stress and Disadvantage
The Transformation of Child and Adolescent
