Dr Paula Heimann was born in Danzig on 3 February 1899 and died in London on 22 October 1982. She emigrated to London in 1933 having completed her psychoanalytic training in Berlin.
Dr Heimann was particularly interested in training and many psychoanalysts will remember with gratitude her talents as a teacher, both as supervisor and as leader in clinical seminars. The view that countertransference feelings provide a useful means of understanding patients originated very largely with her.
There will be a Memorial Meeting in honour of Dr Heimann, and papers delivered at the meeting will be published in the International Journal/Review of Psycho-Analysis.
