Narcissisme de Vie. Narcissisme de Mort is a very interesting and important book. André Green should not need to be presented to an English-speaking public audience. Yet due to a certain impermeability to the work of analysts not belonging to an English-speaking area and other cultural and sometimes even personal factors, Green's work, like that of other leading French analysts, has often remained rather unknown in England and America despite the fact that one of his most fascinating books has already been translated into English several years ago (Green, 1979). See also the recently published Private Madness (1986), a translation of several of Green's most significant papers.
Personally I think that many readers would enjoy his 'Hamlet et Hamlet' (1983) as well, if it were to be translated. Yet despite his interests in applied psychoanalysis especially to literature but not exclusively so, Green has recently produced a particularly in-depth and highly personal contribution to the relationships between language and psychoanalysis (1984). The study of a clinical problem such as narcissism is e
