A European Federation of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (EFPP) for EC and EFTA countries was founded on 8 February 1991.
Fifty delegates from the majority of the 18 countries attended a three-day meeting in London, which concluded with the adoption of a Constitution and the first meeting of its elected Executive Committee.
The Federation is to focus on public health and related services where third parties fund treatment. Its main aims are to benefit the public by promoting the development of both psychoanalytic psychotherapy services and the training of therapists to a high standard and also to promote further research. The Federation will want to bring to notice the scarcity of treatment resources in many of the countries.
The officers of the Executive Committee are:
Chair: Dr Brian Martindale (London)
Vice-Chair: Dr John Tsiantis (Greece)
Coordinators:
Adult section Dr Serge Frisch (Luxembourg)
Group section Dr Göran Ahlin (Sweden)
Children & Adolescents Ms Birgit Hallerfors (Sweden)
