Dear Mr Tuckett,
Thank you for letting me see Dr Naiman’s letter.
In my paper I was interested in pointing out the quality of the images that Freud had used to describe the unconscious wishes and phantasies and not in establishing whether or not it came from Homer’s Odyssey—yet I thank Dr Naiman for his point and information—and connections. I cannot comment on his other hypothesis. Unfortunately I did not know about his 1994 paper because we do not receive the Canadian Journal of Psychoanalysis and up to the present there is no actualised database which can inform the scholar of everything that is simultaneously published on a certain subject in our field. Furthermore, my manuscript was accepted in autumn 1993. Due to its length and all the editing problems this created it would have been impossible to ask for further bibliographic items or changes in my text at this final stage.
Yours sincerely
Riccardo Steiner
