Dear Sir:
Dr Kavaler-Adler, in her letter, sails past my review of her book. The various ‘misunderstandings’ she attributes to me concern issues I didn't address. What I did address was her use of theory in ways not sufficiently supple to encompass the complexity of the lives of the writers, or the works of literature, that she analyses.
