Dear Sir,
In his response to Han Israëls' Letter to the Editor, ‘Het geval Freud’, Mark Solms reported Israëls' allegation that I suppressed a letter written in 1934 by Sigmund Freud to Professor Meller (Int. J. Psychoanal., 1998, 78: 817-818). Israëls is in error. Ernst Freud wanted to publish that letter but Meller's family objected.
Solms also reported Israëls' claim that I suppressed the letters that Freud wrote to his fianceé between 1882 and 1886 (Int. J. Psychoanal., 1997, 78: 818). This, too, is wrong inasmuch as I have for several years been endeavoring to have them published in a scholarly edition.
Sincerely
K. R. Eissler
