Zaltzman has been a member of the ‘Fourth Group’ since its creation in 1969 by P. Aulagnier, F. Perrier and J. P. Valabrega, all three of whom were members of the executive body of the École Freudienne de Paris (EFP), founded by Lacan in 1964. The ‘Fourth Group’ emerged from a split resulting from disagreements over the training modalities of analysts as they were set out in the first two issues of the review Topique, founded in 1970 by Piera Aulagnier. Zaltzman was a member of the editorial committee of this journal from 1974 to 1998, and most of her works have been published in it. Two of her articles have also appeared in the Nouvelle Revue de Psychanalyse under the direction of J. Pontalis.

More generally, she enquires into the disinvestment and counter-disinvestment of reality in the life struggle; that is, how each one of us may or may not resist the ‘combined action of a destructive social reality and an internal adhesion to exclusion’ (‘Tomber hors du monde’, ).
With reference to clinical experience, Zaltzman examines the links between the individual psyche and the group, as well as
