We are delighted to announce that Dott. Antonino Ferro has been appointed to the post of European Editor of the International Journal of Psychonalysis, to take effect from 1 August 2003. He succeeds Jean-Michel Quinodoz, a tribute to whom follows this announcement. Antonino Ferro is an ideal person to take up the mantle of the European Editorship of the IJP, given his wide involvement in European psychoanalysis and extensive experience in psychoanalytic publishing. Born in Palermo in 1947, Antonino Ferro obtained his Classical School Leaving Certificate followed by a First Class degree in Medicine and Surgery at Palermo University. At Pavia University he specialised in psychiatry, gaining First Class honours, and worked on a national research centre project concerned with the prevention of mental diseases (from 1976 to 1983). Following an early interest in the fields of drug addiction and psycho-geriatrics he became involved in child neuro-psychiatry and this led to his setting up and directing a Centre for Motor and Language Rehabilitation. He subsequently became a lecturer at Pavia University Psychiatric Centre and Milan University Child Psychotherapy Centre, where he occupied the post of Professor of Child Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. He is currently a Training and Supervising analyst for the SPI, based in Milan, where he conducts analyses of adults, adolescents and children. He has a particular interest in the analysis of severely disturbed patients. Ferro has always been interested in the study of contrasting and competing models in psychoanalysis. This interest has led him to debate and work with colleagues from all parts of the world. Two areas of study in which he has excelled are the concept of the ‘Psychoanalytic Field’ postulated by Baranger in Argentina, and the theories and clinical methods of Wilfred Bion.
Antonino is also an enthusiastic teacher, providing supervision, lectures and seminars for psychoanalytic societies in many countries, particula
