Perhaps inescapably, The Freud encyclopedia: Theory, therapy and culture is an uneven and sometimes odd assemblage of entries, comprising terms, concepts, controversies, biographies and institutional histories that in one way or another are linked to Freud and the history of psychoanalysis. The book is beautifully produced by Routledge and, while one is unlikely to read its six hundred and forty pages from beginning to end, the entries, one by one, are readable and engaging, generally accessible to a wide readership but also of interest to practising analysts as well as to those academics for whom Freud and Freudianism are important points of reference.
