Wilson (2005) addresses the issue of ‘pathography’ as it pertains to applied psychoanalytic studies, this designation so often having been used pejoratively to denigrate work that does not conform to the particular expectations or standards of a given individual or group.
With psychopathology being an inevitable and essential part of any psychobiography, it might be worth considering setting aside the above term so long as the subject's attempt at mastery of internal or intrapsychic conflict, no matter how severe, by whatever means is emphasized in the text along with the phenomenon of multiple determination, regardless of whether such efforts are referred to as sublimation.
