Letters to the Editors: Minutes of the Business Meeting of the International Psychoanalytical Association held in the Rio de Janeiro Rooms at the Sofitel Hotel, Rio de Janeiro, 29 July 2005, 17:30-20:00

Prof. Widlöcher welcomed the Members to the last Business Meeting of his administration. He said that he was delighted to see the past Latin American President, Dr Horacio Etchegoyen, present at the meeting. The meeting applauded Dr Etchegoyen.

As it had not been possible to do so earlier in the week, Prof. Widlöcher announced the winners of the Psychoanalytic Training Today Award. Although the winner of the first prize was not present, the second-prize winner came up to accept the award.

Prof. Widlöcher reminded the meeting that reports contained in the Business Meeting Booklet would be taken as read and not therefore read out during the meeting.

He introduced Dr Ralph W. Layland, a member of the IPA's Constitution, Bylaws and Procedures Committee, who would act as Parliamentarian throughout the meeting.

The President invited comment on these minutes. There were no comments and the minutes were approved with two abstentions.

3. Names of Members of the IPA Who Have Died Since the Last Congress

Prof. Widlöcher asked the meeting to stand and observe one minute's silence in honour of deceased colleagues.
