Some books are fun to read. Some are important. Some have an immediate impact on the reader. Others have a lasting effect. It is to the great credit of Judy Kantrowitz that this book manages to do just about all of these.
The volume is a compendium of interviews that covers material ranging from describing just what analysts say and do when writing about patients, the effect of this writing on patients from the analyst's viewpoint, as well as patients' perceptions. These interviews are thorough and representative, and Kantrowitz manages to conduct an ongoing commentary and to serve as sort of a museum docent as we move from one section to the next.
