The history of psychoanalysis in Mexico was presented under the chairmanship of Dr Steve Ellman (IPTAR). It was described by six participants who represented the different societies now affiliated to the IPA:
Marco Antonio Dupont (Mexican Psychoanalytic Association, APM)
Enrique Núñez Jasso (ARPAC, Monterrey)
Andrés Gaitán (Mexican Psychoanalytic Society — ‘Parque México’)
Raquel Berman (AMPIEP)
Olga Varela (Guadalajara Group = Psychoanalytic Association of Guadalajara)
Approved as a provisional association during this congress:
Cesar Garza Guerrero (CEIP)
In his introduction, Steve Ellman pointed out the difficulties in our societies and the damage incurred to individuals and groups when splits occur, with reference to events surrounding some groups in New York. He set out his achievements in bringing about the participation in this panel of representatives from the various Mexican psychoanalytic associations. He then expressed the hope that this would lead to increasingly open and forward-looking communication that would foster creative dialogue.
