The Education Section publishes papers for use in teaching. Sometimes we publish a series of papers on a topic (for example countertransference, the Oedipus complex, unconscious phantasy) from different theoretical points of view; sometimes we publish review papers on the work of an individual analyst (Winnicott, for example).
The three papers presented in this issue form part of a group on the use of the past and the present in the clinical setting. Two of them have been published already: . The Use of the Past and the Present in the Clinical Setting: Past and Presents. Int J Psychoanal 87:1691-1707; . The illumination of history. Int J Psychoanal 88:609-25.
