This study presents a model of the psychoanalytic process in personality disorders in three dimensions: felt safety, mentalization and self-object relations. Based upon this model a hospitalisation based therapy programme was created. Four scales to measure these three dimensions on the Object Relation Interview are discussed: the Felt Safety Scale, the Reflective Functioning Scale and the Bion Grid Scale and the Relation Differentiatedness Scale.
A naturalistic symptom outcome study of the programme, showed a large effect. Furthermore trajectory analysis showed different trajectories related with patient characteristics at the start of the treatment according to the anaclytic/introjective personality style (Blatt, 2008). The psychoanalytic process was studied with the four scales and two different clusters were demonstrated. Most importantly we found a correlation of the outcome with the psychoanalytic process. In an additional study we focused on the changes in the relational problems of the patients.
