The author explores childlessness as a stigma experienced from the unmet social norm of motherhood. The concept of reverie accesses a rich plethora of mutual symbolic interplay between analyst and patient that weaves together a metaphorical expansion of both minds. The relevant psychoanalytic literature on motherhood, symbolization, triangular space, and countertransference reverie is explored. The author makes an essential contribution to the literature transforming motherhood from a concrete reproductive stage of female development into the symbolic use of the female mind as creative womb.
