Reflecting on Bion's enigmatic statement suggesting that hallucinosis would be a medium both of rigid motion and projective transformations, the Author investigates the concept of transformation in hallucinosis within the broader context of the studies of hallucinatory phenomena in the construction of the psychic apparatus and transference. Drawing on the case material from the psychotherapy of two adolescents, the Author examines the role of the hallucinatory repetition of traumatic experiences in the treatment of non neurotic patients and suggests the need for the conceptualization of a mechanism more primitive than projective identification, namely excorporation.
