The study aims to make a freethinking exercise on the narrative of The wolf man, highlighting: 1) the gap between the consistency of Freud's metapsychological thought and some aspects of the technique and 2) issues relating to the conflict with Jung, which give us the opportunity to think about the scientificity of psychoanalysis. In this regard, it mainly brings forward H. Atlan's ideas. This author sees psychoanalysis doomed to oscillate between sacrificing rigidity to richness, or richness to rigidity, an ambiguity that was not and should not be resolved, and that is even profitable for the psychoanalytic theory and technique's development. The scientific within Freud could be mainly the fact that he respected the rules in the scientific fields at his time. What may seem limiting by the deterministic character that characterized the scientific thinking, prevented an impoverishing synthesis between scientific and extra scientific, unlike the posture adopted by Jung. The most questionable aspects of Freud's thoughts, from the point of view of the science of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century, are the most revolutionary and rich in possibilities for developing the point of view of science in the XXI century: the psychic at all its dimensions, not reducible to rationality, the method of observation and the tools to approach this subject matter (the emotional experiences, the intuition, the non-rational), aspects that are not covered by the deterministic thinking.
