Over the years, parents have been theoretically dealt with passively, mostly in the background of the effort invested in addressing the child's development, and based on a conception of parents as objects. With the development of the psychoanalytic theory, the status of parents is increasingly changing, and parents are also being treated as subjects. This development requires one to learn the psychology of a parent and to fit a unique therapeutic approach. In this paper, the main argument is that the tension between the conception of parents as objects and their construal as subjects is not only theoretical - it is a central focal point in the parental internal essence and should be a central focal point in psychotherapy intended for parents.
