We report initial clinical experience of a patient with Broken Heart Syndrome treated with psychoanalytic process with mutative approach. Broken Heart or Takotsubo Syndrome is classified among acute coronary syndromes and it affects mainly women after acute stress, trauma or mourning. The pathophysiological mechanism reside on stress-induced reversible microvascular constriction, producing ischemia and myocardial dysfunction, resembling acute myocardial infarction, but with patent epicardial coronary arteries. Thus, it is a unique clinical condition in which body and mind work as one with clinical biological evidence of psychic disorder. The syndrome may be recurrent despite full medical therapy. For the first time, we propose a psychoanalytic approach in the treatment of a cardiovascular disease generated by a psychic disorder and in the prevention of its recurrences. Being the therapist a cardiologist and psychoanalyst was also facilitated in a unique way the resolution of the body-mind split that affected the patient.
