In the analysis of women patients by women analysts, great transferential difficulties ensue from the regression to the relation with the archaic object. The regression brings forth a basic conflict with respect to separation from the maternal object. In some cases a melancholic core can appear during the analytic process. Both J. Kristeva and J. Godfrind note the recurrent manifestation of the crypt, which stands in the way of the mourning of the maternal object. C. Chabert remarks that the defect of the hysterical version of the fantasy of seduction creates in the girl the conviction of having committed incest. The resulting sense of guilt constitutes a major force that maintains her fixated to the mother, in a “black pact” with her. In this sense, mourning of the mother depends on the patient's capability to find the erotic and the loving object or the possibility to create and sublimate by the use of the cultural objects.
