Previous research has demonstrated that virtual networks, especially Instagram, negatively affect users' mental health and make users vulnerable to mental disorders. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the psychopathology of Instagram and the condition of this vulnerability. Since the previous studies have been descriptive, a qualitative research method was used in this study to further understand this condition. Methodologically, in-depth interviews were conducted with 14 popular Instagram users and the data obtained were analyzed in a comparative manner using the theoretical framework and the matrix derived from the second version of the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual. Two general themes were obtained that indicated key features of the narcissistic and depressive-masochistic personality in these users. It seems that along with the structure of Instagram, users' central concern is to regulate their self-esteem and they use Instagram for this purpose. In other words, the forms and practices in Instagram create a set of narcissistic and depressive beliefs in users about themselves and others, making them addictively susceptible to receiving external approval to be able to accept their own selves, and such a cycle can make users vulnerable.
