The author starts from the clinical case of a person who, despite answering criteria of femininity from a social and biological point of view, experiences a deep and severe sexual identity crisis. The author explores some of the implications of the case for the psychoanalytic theory as well as practice, and proposes a possible explanation for the construction of a subjective feminine identity in a sexually determined body.
From a theoretical perspective, she argues that the failures of psychic processes impact the gender identity and construction of the person. The impact is all the greater if the failures are located at the heart of the psychic matrix itself. The failures prevent the psychic emergence of the feminine. The author demonstrates the existence of transduction processes serving a psycho-corporeal connection and she supports a principle of psycho-corporeal connection.
From a technical perspective, the author puts forward the relevance of analytical therapy for similar clinical situations. She argues the relevance rests on the theorical-clinical evolution of notions of transfer, counter-transfer, and psychosexuality.
