Over the course of the next four issues, beginning with this one, we are treated to a detailed and captivating clinical presentation by Lucyann Carlton and to a variety of discussions that reflect a wide and colorful range of theoretical perspectives. In addition to the discussions by Joseph D. Lichtenberg and by Barbara and Stuart Pizer included in this issue, subsequent discussions of Carlton's continued clinical elaborations will include the work of James Fosshage, Henry Friedman, Donna Orange, Carol Munschauer, Stephen Seligman, and Malcolm Slavin. I think you will find that this series of articles gives voice to many of our own personal and clinical struggles and to the unremitting certainty that there is no single clear and unfettered lens with which to organize our clinical experience.
